Ti stai avvicinando al mondo della registrazione domini<\/strong> e hai gi\u00e0 incontrato la prima difficolt\u00e0: tutti parlano di registry, registrar e registrant, ma nessuno spiega bene cosa significhino i tre termini e la loro assonanza rischia di creare confusione ogni volta che leggi qualcosa di specifico sull\u2019argomento.<\/p>\n

Per questo ho pensato a un modo che ti aiuti a comprendere quale sia la differenza fra il registry<\/strong> (puoi anche trovarlo scritto nella sua forma plurale come registries<\/em>), il registrar<\/strong> e il registrant<\/strong> per svelarti l\u2019arcano che si cela dietro le tre R che regolano il mondo della registrazione domini.<\/p>\n

Cercando di ragionare su un\u2019analogia che ti aiutasse a capire la differenza fra i tre ruoli, mi \u00e8 venuto in mente l\u2019esempio di un\u2019autostrada.<\/p>\n

La registrazione domini come l\u2019autostrada del web<\/h2>\n

Come ben sai, dietro a ogni autostrada, c\u2019\u00e8 una societ\u00e0 che si occupa di costruirne i tratti nuovi, di manutenerla e di tenere traccia di tutti i tratti interrotti, chiusi o sottoposti a manutenzione. Allo stesso tempo, l\u2019accesso all\u2019autostrada \u00e8 regolato da caselli autostradali che possono essere di propriet\u00e0 della societ\u00e0 stessa che gestisce l\u2019autostrada, ma anche dati in appalto a societ\u00e0 terze che si occupano di riscuotere per conto della societ\u00e0 autostradale il pedaggio dei veicoli. Infine, ci se tu, che con la tua automobile chiedi accesso al casellante per percorrere il tratto di autostrada che ti permette di giungere dove il futuro ti aspetta.<\/p>\n

Nell\u2019ambito della registrazione domini funziona allo stesso identico modo.<\/p>\n

Registrazione domini: il registry<\/h2>\n

Per ogni estensione a dominio (ccTLD o gTLD che sia), c\u2019\u00e8 un registry o registro<\/strong>, ossia una societ\u00e0 o un ente che detiene il potere e i diritti per una e una sola determinata estensione, ne mantiene l\u2019ordine e si occupa di gestire il database dei nomi a dominio assegnati per quella determinata estensione.<\/p>\n

\u00c8 il registry che profonde tutti gli investimenti necessari per il mantenimento dell\u2019estensione a dominio e dell\u2019associazione fra gli indirizzi numerici e il nome a dominio. Il ruolo del registry \u00e8 paragonabile a quanto la societ\u00e0 autostradale fa con i suoi percorsi stradali.<\/p>\n

In Italia, ad esempio, il ccTLD .it<\/strong> \u00e8 mantenuto dal NIC o Registro.it<\/strong>, che rappresenta il registry per l\u2019estensione .it e fa capo alla divisione \u201cIstituto di Informatica e Telematica\u201d del CNR di Pisa. Il registry per il .eu \u00e8 EURid, per il .com \u00e8 l\u2019americana Verisign.<\/p>\n

Registrazione domini: il registrar<\/h2>\n

Ogni registry accredita poi una serie di registrar<\/strong>, ossia una serie di aziende private a cui \u00e8 permessa la rivendita dell\u2019assegnazione dei nomi a dominio di secondo livello<\/strong> facenti riferimento all\u2019estensione TLD di competenza del registry.<\/p>\n

Il registrar ha pi\u00f9 o meno la funzione del casellante: raccoglie dall\u2019utente la richiesta di accesso, chiede il pagamento e notifica al registry l\u2019uso delle sue risorse. In pratica, il registrar \u00e8 l\u2019anello che congiunge l\u2019utente al registry di riferimento per quella determinata estensione. Per diventare registrar, bisogna farne domanda al registry di competenza, assolvere alcune garanzie e sottoscrivere un contratto di condotta che prevede il pagamento di una quota associativa.<\/p>\n

Se il NIC \u00e8 il registry per i domini .it, Artera \u00e8 il registrar<\/strong> per la medesima ed \u00e8 accreditata dal NIC a rivendere l\u2019assegnazione dei nomi a dominio .it. La stessa cosa vale per EURid, infatti Artera \u00e8 registrar certificato anche per i domini .eu.<\/p>\n

Normalmente, il registrar compone la propria offerta di registrazione domini arricchendola con altri servizi, come la gestione DNS, i servizi email, quelli hosting o di site builder e via discorrendo. Non \u00e8 neanche raro trovare situazioni in cui i registrar siano aziende specializzate nella sola registrazione domini per diverse tipologie di estensioni, lasciando ad altre imprese le attivit\u00e0 collaterali come quelle di hosting. In questo caso, gli hosting provider offrono pacchetti completi con la registrazione domini appoggiandosi a registrar esterni.<\/p>\n

Registrazione domini: il registrant<\/h2>\n

Infine, c\u2019\u00e8 il registrant<\/strong>: chi richiede la registrazione di un nome a dominio, trasforma il nome a dominio stesso da un\u2019ipotetica assegnazione a una tangibile presenza sul web. Il registrant sei tu che con la tua automobile chiedi l\u2019accesso all\u2019autostrada del Web al casellante.<\/p>\n

In qualit\u00e0 di registrant, chiedi al registrar l\u2019assegnazione di un nome a dominio, il registrar la inoltra al registry che vaglia le condizioni per l\u2019assegnazione. Se tutto \u00e8 in regola, il nome a dominio viene intestato al registrant, cio\u00e8 a te, che ne diventi il proprietario e puoi vantarne i diritti secondo le disposizioni legislative e per i tempi dettati dal contratto di servizio che sottoscrivi (la maggior parte dei casi per un anno, salvo rinnovo).<\/p>\n

Registry, registrar e registrant possono coincidere<\/h2>\n

Ora che hai finalmente capito la differenza fra registry, registrar e registrant<\/strong>, voglio farti notare che vi sono dei casi in cui questa distinzione non \u00e8 cos\u00ec netta e vi pu\u00f2 essere coincidenza fra due o tre dei ruoli citati.<\/p>\n

Ad esempio, nel caso del nome a dominio artera.it<\/b>, il registrant \u00e8 la societ\u00e0 Artera Srl<\/strong>, ma guarda caso, anche il registrar \u00e8 lo stesso, proprio perch\u00e9 all\u2019azienda \u00e8 concesso di effettuare registrazione domini per conto del registry italiano, ossia del NIC. In questo caso, quindi due dei tre ruoli di cui ti ho parlato fino a ora coincidono perfettamente.<\/p>\n

Con l\u2019avvento delle nuove estensioni a dominio nTLD, rilasciate di recente dall\u2019ICANN, vi pu\u00f2 essere anche la coincidenza di tutti e tre i ruoli, per cui il registry pu\u00f2 fungere anche da registrar e registrant senza infrangere alcun regolamento.<\/p>\n

\u00c8 il caso della registrazione domini associata all\u2019estensione .book<\/strong>. Questa nTLD \u00e8 garantita da Amazon in qualit\u00e0 di registry, ma Amazon sta pianificando di distribuire questa nTLD in modo selettivo ad alcune parti della propria rete. Questo significa che tutti i domini specifici con estensione .book saranno di propriet\u00e0 di Amazon, che quindi acquisisce anche il ruolo di registrar e di registrant.<\/p>\n

Questi esempi sono dei casi limiti, che confermano comunque l\u2019esistenza di tre ruoli che insieme rendono funzionale e sicura la registrazione domini<\/strong> sul Web.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
